In the documentation on body slots and equipment ( http://www.pcgen-test.org/autobuilds/pcgen-docs/listfilepages/systemfilestagpages/gamemodeequipmentslots.html ), it states:
"The equipmentslots.lst sets the name of locations on the character to which specific equipment types can be equipped as well as the number of such items which can be equipped. Equipment which do [sic] not have one of the types specified in this file can be equipped to the character without taking up a slot an unlimited number of times."
However, it seems not to matter since (in game mode RSRD 3.5), items like rings, robes, helms seem to be conferring their full benefits whether they are worn on their specific slot or are merely “Equipped” generally. (I’ve attached a character with such an layout.)
If the intention is to allow more flexibility in equipping items with designated slots, then this would seem to be a docs bug; if not, then this would seem to be a code bug. (I tried to ask this in a PCGen Yahoo Groups message but didn’t get an answer.)
Perhaps, though, there could even be a feature request to for an user option and/or data code that allows items to work equally well or not equipped in their slots and equipped generally. It might be useful to have an everburning torch that can be just equipped (the current situation) or equipped to a hand, providing light equally in either situation. Multiple helms on a one-headed character, though, seem less desirable, and the rings situation can easily be changed by changing the options with Fingers.
The character’s equipped items of each type and what they are showing as still contributing:
Amulet of Health +6 - Neck - +6 Con
Periapt of Wisdom +6 - Equipped - +6 Wis
Amulet of Natural Armor - Equipped - +5 Natural Armor Bonus
Helm of Brilliance - Head - (occupying space)
Headband of Intellect - +6 Eq - +6 Int
Ring (Force Shield) - Fingers - +2 misc. bonus to AC
Ring (Spell Turning) - Fingers - Know Spells > Magic Item >> Spell Turning
Ring (Protection +5) - Eq. - +5 Deflection Bonus
Robe of Eyes - Body - Darkvision (120 ft.), Low-Light, See Etheral (120 ft.), See Invisibility (120 ft.)
Robe of the Archmagi (White) - Eq. - +5 Armor Bonus, +4 to saves, 18 Spell Resistance
This may have resolved itself, perhaps with some other fix going on. I'll wait a few days, test again, and then cancel if it stays fixed.
Equipped is no longer an option for any item of equipment that would have fitted into one of the other slots.
