The need to set the paper type to Letter is very important for PDF export since PDF printing using Acrobat Reader resizing to fit the letter paper causes the printout to be light. i.e. what should be dark solid lines become grayed and slightly blurry. This makes readability of the PDF printout very poor. This just wastes paper to have to go back and set the type to letter and re-export and re-print. This has been a Major annoyance to me which is why I set the priority to Major. However, I think most people would consider this Minor. Nevertheless, it should be possible to query the locale and set the default paper type to the locale of the operating system. Alternatively, maybe there can be an AUTO setting in PCGen which will query the default printers default paper type.
