Purpose of this proposal is the facilitation of alternative encumbrance systems using bulk, such as Starfinder or Pathfinder Playtest. This requires unhardcoding the current encumbrance categories and making the formula for calculating encumbrance thresholds more flexible.
To retain compatibility, I propose creating a new tag that will replace the old ENCUMBRANCE tag. The old tag should be kept alive so older format games modes will continue to work.
Tag name: ENCUMBRANCECATEGORY:v|w:x|y|z
Variables Used (v): Text (Name of load category)
Variables Used (w): Operator (MULT or ADD)
Variables Used ( x): Number (Multiplier or Addend)
Variables Used ( y): Text (Move formula. Optional)
Variables Used (z): Number (Check Penalty)
What it does:
Works like ENCUMBRANCE, but can define free non-hardcoded encumbrance categories.
If w is MULT the portion of full load covered by encumbrance category is calculating by multiplying the maximum from the LOAD lines with x
If w is ADD the portion of full load covered by encumbrance category is calculating by adding x to the maximum from the LOAD lines.
ENCUMBRANCECATEGORY:Medium|MULT:2/3||0 defines a load category "Medium" as up to 2/3 of the value specified by the LOAD lines. This is equivalent to the older tag ENCUMBRANCE:Medium|2/3||0.
ENCUMBRANCECATEGORY:Encumbered|ADD:-5||0 defines a load category "Encumbered" as up to 5 units less than the value specified by the LOAD lines. this can be used to implement systems using bulk for encumbrance, such as Starfinder or Pathfinder Playtest.
Feedback and improvement ideas are welcome.
Any chance we could just use the new FORMULA system to help facilitate this?
